Invisalign is an excellent choice for patients wanting to try an invisible braces option. This system of clear aligners adjusts your teeth gently yet efficiently without brackets and wires. If you’re looking for the comfort and convenience of clear braces, Invisalign may be right for you! Here are some common questions patients ask about this treatment type.
How do clear aligners work?
Before you begin treatment, Dr. Harris will create impressions of your teeth. He will send your impressions to a lab to create a custom set of aligners that fit perfectly over each tooth. When your aligners come in, we will schedule an appointment for you to come in for your aligners. Each week, you will wear a new set of upper and lower aligners to gently move your teeth into their prescribed positions.
How often do I wear my aligners?
For the most successful treatment, we strongly recommend you wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day. You can remove your aligners to eat and drink and while brushing and flossing your teeth. Otherwise, you’ll want to make sure you’re wearing them throughout the day to ensure the fastest treatment possible.
How long does treatment take?
Your exact treatment time depends on your individual orthodontic needs. In most cases, patients finish treatment in about a year. During your initial consultation, we can asses your teeth and gums and determine a closer date range for finishing treatment.
How should I clean my aligners?
In the morning, evening, and after every meal, brush your aligners with a soft-bristle toothbrush and toothpaste and rinse in lukewarm water. Be sure to never rinse with hot water to keep the material from warping. To help you easily brush after meals, we recommend carrying a travel toothbrush and toothpaste with you when you’re out of the house. If you’re unable to brush after meals, simply rinse your mouth with water to remove any food particles and brush your aligners at your earliest convenience.
How much does Invisalign cost?
Your exact cost of treatment depends on your insurance benefits as well as the severity of your treatment needs. When you schedule your initial consultation, we can discuss your insurance coverage and evaluate your teeth and gums to provide a cost estimate up front before you start treatment.
