Getting dental braces is a big step! You’ve made the decision to start your orthodontic journey and have scheduled your first appointment. So, what happens next?

What to Expect

At your first visit, you should expect to be at our office for about 45 minutes. During this initial consultation, we will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums to decide the best course of orthodontic treatment. Our treatment coordinator will take photographs of your mouth as well as x-rays. These x-rays allow us to see below the gums to the jaw bones to determine the health of your bones and review the source of any bite issues.

Then, we will review the photos and x-rays and perform an oral exam. Depending on your individual needs, we will recommend which type of treatment will be best for you. While many patients would like Invisalign, not everyone is a good candidate for this treatment. In these cases, Dr. Harris will recommend different types of braces that will work as efficiently and comfortably as possible.

After the exam is complete, we will discuss your potential treatment options, the length we expect you to be in treatment, as well as your fees and financial arrangements. During this time, we encourage you to ask any questions about your treatment plan or the cost of treatment. Our goal is to work with you to provide the right treatment type at a cost that fits in your family’s budget.

Preparing for Your Appointment

On the day of your appointment, please bring your insurance card with you so we can provide a cost estimate. In addition, if you’ve had any Panorex x-rays taken within the last six months, please bring a copy with you. You can also ask your dentist to email us a copy to info@harrisbraces.com.
