What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a form of orthodontic treatment that does not use metal brackets or wires but a series of plastic aligners that are custom made for an individual’s teeth. Sometimes referred to as “clear braces”, this form of treatment is very appealing to many different groups of people – especially adults because they typically want to keep their treatment hidden.

How does it work?

First of all, you need to schedule a consultation with a preferred Invisalign provider like Dr. Harris. At the consultation, Dr. Harris will make sure that you are a candidate for Invisalign treatment. Invisalign treatment is not for everyone. If you are a candidate and choose to move forward with treatment, the Harris Orthodontics team will take scans of your teeth and Dr. Harris will create a unique plan to shift your teeth. He will then send this plan to Invisalign for them to make your custom aligners.

Once the aligners are made, you will wear each set for approximately two weeks and then move on to the next set. Over time, the aligners will gradually move your teeth to their desired locations. You will need to come in to see Dr. Harris every few weeks for checks ups.

When do you wear the aligners?

It is recommended that you wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours per day for optimal results. The only times that you are required to remove them are when you are eating, when you are drinking something other than water, and when you brush your teeth.
